Testing with a BITS Server

Jacques,

I am testing on Win XP, I do not have BITS Server extension in IIS.
To install BITS Server, it is supported on Win 2003 server and 2000 server.
Do you know any other way in which it can be installed on win xp?
Do you have account setting details for BITS, which I can use?
In Installation doc they have given bits.memba.com, can I use it?

For test purpose, you can:
  1. download and install Virtual PC http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=04D26402-3199-48A3-AFA2-2DC0B40A73B6&displaylang=en
  2. download a VHD of Windows Server 2003 like http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=43621A8F-12FB-4E7C-BB38-1CBB6EF272C5&displaylang=en (By the way, this VM will allow you to test Exchange mailboxes)
  3. Execute the VHD in Virtual PC on Windows XP
  4. install and configure BITS extensions as per our Installation Guide
  5. Access the VM like any computer on the network except it all runs on a single PC.
To run Windows Server 2003 in a Virtual Machine executing on Windows XP you need at least 1GB RAM (640 MB for Win XP and 384MB for the Win Server 2003 VM) and 10 GB free HD (to start with the VHD is about 6GB but grows quickly). To be safe, consider 1.5 GB RAM.
